How to Say “I Don't Have” in Russian.
Genitive Plural

EXERCISE:
Make sentences following the pattern “У someone нет something” using the following words. You must say that someone doesn’t have more than 1 object. For example (with the word ‘компью́тер’, computer):
– У меня́ нет компью́теров. – I don’t have computers.
– У нас нет компью́теров. – We don’t have computers.
– У Мари́ны нет компью́теров. – Marina doesn’t have computers.
– О Оле́га нет компью́теров. – Oleg doesn’t have computers.

Words for practice:
    Pattern 1: nouns ending in a vowel:
  • пробле́ма – problem
  • ко́мната – room
  • кварти́ра – flat, apartment
  • де́вушка – girlfriend
  • подру́га – (female) friend
  • соба́ка – dog
  • жили́ще – dwelling

  • профе́ссия – profession
  • мне́ние – opinion
  • жела́ние – wish, desire

  • Pattern 2: nouns ending in a consonant:
  • план – plan
  • интере́с – interest
  • отве́т – answer
  • до́ллар – dollar

  • Following nouns lose a vowel in the Genitive Plural:
  • спи́сок – list
  • замо́к – lock
  • па́лец – finger/toe

  • Pattern 3: nouns ending in ж, ш, щ, ч or -ь:
  • ла́ндыш – lily of the valley
  • котте́дж [тэ] – cottage
  • свиде́тель (m) – witness, attestor
  • посети́тель (m) – visitor
  • мысль (f) – thought

  • Following masculine nouns change the stress in the Genitive Plural:
  • гара́ж – garage
  • слова́рь – dictionary
  • вещь – thing
  • ло́шадь – horse
